This absolutely nice arm chair and foot stool set by Bruno Mathsson for Dux is sure to attract the attention of any guest when entering your home. The eye catching vibrant patterned wool upholstery paired with the sleek and modernist low chrome frame are a beautiful combination and will certainly make any room of the house look instantly better.
Designed by Swedish designer and architect Bruno Mathsson in 1969, this set named 'Karin' were the first items of furniture in a successful collaboration with Dux that lasted for several decades.
Mathsson had a great interest in furniture design, especially chairs, and in the 1920s and 30s developed a successful technique for building bentwood chairs with hemp webbing. The first model and possibly his most famous work 'The Grasshopper' was used in Värnamo Hospital in 1931 and has since been considered a design classic and can be found among many of this other works in the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
The chair is very comfortable due to the stuffed cushions that rest on fabric webbing. The webbing acts like a hammock with your body moulding to the shape for maximum comfort. The stylish chrome castors or gliders allow each piece to be easily moved around the home.
We're not sure if the fabric upholstery is original but it is in lovely condition with no holes or tears, just a slight colour variation from the seats to the arm rests, but nothing that detracts from it's over all look. We have had the old stained and torn supporting webbing replaced on both the chair and stool in as close to the original fabric as we could source. The chrome features some very slight tarnish in places along with some light scratching, but is generally in very nice condition.
A beautiful set for any lover of Mid 20th Century design.
The chair measures approximately 77cm wide, 82cm deep and 76cm tall with a seat height of 36cm, while the foot stool measures approximately 66cm square and 36cm tall to seamlessly match the seat height of the chair.
