A year or so ago we purchased a couple of very simple but stylish Mid 20th Century wirework lamps, very typical of their modernist era.
Instead of selling the originals, which we both definitely wanted to keep, we decided to re-make them. Working with Andrew Hewat, a metalworker and fabricator located in the Scottish Borders, we made a few tweaks and changes to the design, re-imagining an uncomplicated sculptural piece that is not only a functional object but also beautiful to look at.
Once the steel base frame was complete we searched high and low for a large oriental style pleated shade to pair with it but as time wore on we realised this just wasn't going to happen and so set about producing our own.
We designed the shade with specific dimensions for this base, and chose a cotton outer fabric with a plastic, PVC lining. The exaggerated triangular shapes of both the shade and base pair beautifully, the clean linear silhouettes forming a perfect match.
Each lamp takes a standard B22 bayonet bulb, 60W max, is wired with cream nylon twisted flex (approximately 2 meters) and has a UK 3 pin plug.
The shade measures approximately 27cm tall with a 60cm diameter while the stand measures 40cm wide and 89cm tall. Altogether the lamp stands at 111cm tall.
Also available with a beige shade option, these lamps are made to order with a 4-6 week lead time.
