Famous across the timeline of the 20th Century the husband and wife team of Charles and Ray Eames embarked on an astounding wide range of enterprises. The primary strategy of the Eames Office was to "bring the most of the best to the greatest number of people for the least." Over the years they did just that, leaving an iconic legacy behind them, with designs emulated and referenced time and time again.
Arriving in 1955, the fiberglass Eames coded DSS stood for Dining (D) height, Side (S) chair, on Stacking (S) base. The Eames DSS Chair came with many variants, apart from bare shells, the choices were made endless with upholstery by Alexander Girard in a multitude of different options and colours, allowing any institution to personalise their purchase as they saw fit.
The DSS chairs were extremely versatile. The superb quality along with some fine efforts from Herman Miller's salesmen, led the Eames DSS Stacking Chair to becoming the most popular institutional chair of choice. Herman Miller documents from a 1957 show that they sold countless numbers to stadiums, hospitals, schools, colleges, universities, clinics, government offices and many others in as little as 2 years. It is the DSS therefore that helped put the Eames plastic shell chairs into modern folklore.
These particular chairs date between 1984-1999 and came from a local catering company that used them for countless events over the years. As a result they come with various light staining, marks, tarnish and some missing/broken floor glides. They all have similar amounts of wear and tear and as a result of stocking multiples you may not receive the exact chair in the photographs. If you would like images of the exact chair/s you would receive please get in touch.
