A. Younger Ltd was a high quality British furniture manufacturer that led the way for style and contemporary taste from the 1950s. Younger furniture was manufactured in low volume, was well made and aimed at the top end of the market. One of the first firms to make Scandinavian inspired furniture in the UK and ultimately one of the first manufacturers to abandon the style completely in the late sixties in the search for something more original and cutting edge.
Younger's top designer was John Herbert, the firm's design director.
This beautiful set of four dining chairs featuring two carvers are sure to make any dining room instantly better. Their simple design is very similar in style to the Danish Moller 75 chair which maybe inspired Herbert when designing them. Although simple in appearance the elegant exaggerated shape of the carver arms along with lovely dowel detailing to the legs, highlight the quality and attention to detail that went into manufacturing these gorgeous chairs.
The two carvers are a little more rare to find, as many households would have chosen not to have them due to their much higher purchase cost compared to the standard chair without arms.
The vinyl fabric is original and in very nice condition with some light wear and minor markings commensurate with age and use. The chair frames themselves have been fully restored, stripped, sanded and re-finished. The colour of the wood is beautifully rich once more with a nice warm tone, emulating the original intended factory finish.
Each carver measures approximately 56.6cm wide, 50cm deep and 76cm tall, with a seat height of 45cm, while the two standard chairs measure approximately 49cm wide, 50cm deep and 76cm tall, with a seat height of 45cm.
