They say imitation is the finest form of flattery, once an object reaches a certain level of value and interest, it’s likely to be copied. This is certainly the case for Geoffrey Baxter and his work for Whitefriars.
It's quite easy to spot fake Whitefriars pieces, simply turn the item upside down and look at the pontil mark (round central disk). If this is not completely smooth it is likely to be a fake. With the Drunken Bricklayer vase, as seen here, the pattern of the dots on the central block is also a tell tale sign, along with the colours green, cobalt blue and strong amber.
With all this in mind we believe this vase to be a fake. However fake or original it's a striking piece that is sure to spark much conversation, maybe even more so being that it's not genuine?
In general good condition with some surface wear and a small chip to the back as photographed, commensurate with age. Measures approximately 21.5cm tall, 9cm wide and 6.5cm deep.
All of our prices include VAT, please get it touch if you require a VAT receipt.
