This beautiful pair of vases by John Clappison for Hornsea Pottery are the perfect set to adorn any mantle, sideboard or table top. The inset oval pattern and warm honey yellow colour is extremely typical of their era, sure to add cheer to any room of the house.
Founded by Brothers Colin and Desmond Rawson in 1949, Hornsea Pottery was originally located in the seaside town of Hornsea on the East Yorkshire coast, hence its name.
By the mid 1950s popularity and production had significantly increased and Hornsea Pottery became one of the major producers of pottery and tableware, not only supplying major retail stores in the UK but also exporting to many countries around the globe. This ultimately led to numerous Design Council awards throughout their 50 year production period.
In general good condition, each piece features a very small chip to the rim and some light crazing, all commensurate with age and use.
The smaller of the two (model 985) measures approximately 6cm in diameter and 7.5cm tall, while the taller (model 983) measures approximately 9.5cm in diameter and 19cm tall.
