The iconic British furniture brand 'Ercol' is not only notorious for its blend of quality craftsmanship but for their stylish designs also. Since 1920, this family business has produced hand-crafted furniture that has certainly stood the test of time, and has become more than just a household name. Ercol is one of the few leading British post-war furniture manufacturers still in operation today.
Renowned for their innovation, Ercol have been continually celebrated for their pioneering approach to furniture making and were market leaders for many of their most famous features and materials.
This lovely large extending dining table is an iconic design from the Ercol Archive. From the Windsor range, the top is constructed from solid Elm and the legs in contrasting Beech. The top is in two sections, extending by a telescopic action of the under rails of each section. The central supporting leg slides back towards one end of the table when the table is in its closed position. Extended or closed it has a bolt locking devise for complete rigidity. The two leaves are stored under the top of the table if not needed on a metal rodded shelf. When fully extended the table can comfortably sit 8-10 people.
The table came to us in a rather sad state, with marks, fading and variations in colour. We have fully stripped, sanded and refinished the table and it is now looking absolutely beautiful once again. As always, even though fully restored there are areas of wear that are simply commensurate with age and cannot be fully gotten rid of, please see photographs. There is also a very slight gap between each section when pushed together.
Featuring the Ercol blue label and dating from the 1960s when open the table measures approximately 224cm wide, 84cm deep, and 71cm tall with an under table height of 69cm. When closed the table measures approximately 153cm wide.
