In 1953, Donald Gomme, a designer at E Gomme, decided to produce a range of modern furniture for the entire house which could be bought piece by piece according to budgets. After WWll there was a huge demand for more modern furniture and none more popular than the G-Plan brand. Designs were available for several years so people could collect them slowly, with all furniture marked with the distinctive brand mark.
This particular piece is from the 'Brandon' range designed by V.B Wilkins, stating that these pieces of furniture had a look that could be placed in any room of the house and not look out of place.
Each piece was available with alternative fitment choices, and whoever bought this piece originally chose to have a secretarie drawer at the top, turning the cupboard into a little desk / bureau.
The unit has been fully stripped, sanded and refinished ridding it of old stains and balancing up the colour once more. That being said there are still some minor signs of its previous life that are simply commensurate with age and use and as photographed.
Measures approximately 76cm wide, 46cm deep and 84.5cm tall.
