This beautiful desk / dressing table by Danish designer Svend Åge Madsen would be a welcome addition to any office / bedroom.
As is the case for many Scandinavian designers from the mid-century period, little biographical information on Madsen has survived. While some rare designs date from the late 1950s, the overwhelming majority of Madsen’s furniture was designed in the 1960s.
Made from a mixture of teak veneer and solid oak this lovely piece of furniture is extremely versatile and has a lift up flap that could neatly store stationary or makeup and cosmetics, the handy mirror (which we have had replaced) a bonus addition. As with most of Madsen's creations it epitomises the Danish modern style and features minimal decorative details.
The top and drawer fronts have been fully stripped, sanded and refinished, ridding the surfaces of stains and marks, balancing up the rich teak colour once more. That being said there still may be signs of minor wear that are simply commensurate with age and use. The rest of the wood has been given a thorough clean and fresh coat of oil.
Measures approximately 116cm wide, 48cm deep and 72.5cm tall, with a 64.5cm under table height.
