This beautiful hand carved mahogany table lamp, circa 1930s, in the form of a mason's hammer, square, level and dividers is the perfect addition to any eclectic home.
The ebonised terraced platform base, impressed "J Arblaster", has been expertly made and is a great talking point for any interior. The source we purchased it from believes that the lamp has associations with the ex Barnsley Friendly Lodge.
The Freemasons are the world's oldest and largest secular fraternal organisation. Guided by principles of integrity, friendship, respect, and service. Freemasons use the allegorical tools of medieval stonemasons to teach moral lessons, support charitable causes, and encourage self-improvement. While not a religious organisation, members must believe in a Supreme Being, though the specific religion is left to the individual. However the discussion religion and politics is strictly forbidden in lodge meetings to maintain unity and harmony.
The shade has been newly made as pairs with the base beautifully.
In general good condition with light wear, and marks commensurate with age, the base has been re-oiled, conditioning and cleaning the wood, making it look its best once more. We've also had the lamp rewired with brown 3 core nylon flex (approximately 240cm) along with a 3 pin UK plug and switch. Requires a standard bayonet B22 light bulb.
Measures approximately 66cm tall in total, the base measures approximately 38cm tall, 34cm wide and 10cm deep. The shade measures approximately 28.5cm tall and 28cm in diameter.
