A. Younger Ltd was a high quality British furniture manufacturer that led the way for style and contemporary taste from the 1950s.
Younger furniture was manufactured in low volume, was well made and aimed at the top end of the market. One of the first firms to make Scandinavian inspired furniture in the UK and ultimately one of the first manufacturers to abandon the style completely in the late sixties in the search for something more original and cutting edge.
Younger's top designer was John Herbert, the firm's design director.
This particular dining table and chairs dating from the late 1950s, designed by Herbert as part of the Fornesca range, was constructed from solid Afromosia, an African wood of similar colour and appearance to teak. The beautiful warm glow of the wood paired with the combination of angular and curved lines really make this a stunning set of dining furniture.
The neutral textured seat coverings pair nicely with the dark wood, creating an understated elegance, extremely typical of its period.
In general good condition for its age with the usual surface markings all commensurate with age some deeper than others. Each piece has been given a thorough clean and oil, conditioning the wood and making sure it gets to you looking its very best. We've also had each seat pad professionally cleaned, removing all previous stains and smells and replaced the under lining which was badly marked and discoloured.
The impressively large table measures approximately 198cm long, 79cm wide and 73.5cm tall with an under table height of 63.5cm.
While each chair measures approximately 51cm wide, 51cm deep and 88cm tall, with a seat height of 47cm.
Due to its size and weight, please make sure you have sufficient help when carrying as its deceivingly heavy. The table top can also be unscrewed in order to get in and out of doorways.
