Vintage 1975 Original Small Oil Painting by Ken Watts

When the opportunity arose to purchase some of Ken Watts' work at a north east auction we absolutely jumped to it. After some furious bidding wars and panic that we were going to come away empty handed, our day ended in smiles, arms full of his wonderful paintings and a very empty wallet.
Mr Ken Watts moved from London to Jarrow in 1959 to find work as a joiner, but as an artist specialised in capturing the fine details of the streets, buildings and the usually mundane scenes such as drainpipes and fire hydrants in the North East of England. The extremely talented painter sadly died in 2014, aged 82.
Continuing to pursue his love of art, in the later years of his life Mr Watts converted a room in his house into a home studio and completed a Fine Arts Degree in Sunderland in 2007, of which he unsurprisingly graduated with First Class Honours.
This beautifully intricate original oil painting features a man going about his daily life on a quiet Caroline Street in Jarrow. With exquisite detail and sense of realism this painting most definitely deserves repeat viewing and attention, demanding you see something different with each view. The vibrant colours and crisp lines are reminiscent of the likes of Edward Hopper, David Hockney, Domenico Gnoli and George Tooker, and although small in size it will most certainly create a huge impact on any wall.
In lovely condition for its age with some minor cracking to the paint, the canvas measures approximately 40cm wide, 45.5cm tall and 1.5cm deep.
