David A. Hardy (b.1936) is the longest-established living space artist, his first published work being seen in 1952. From working almost exclusively in water colours and gouache he has gone on to embrace acrylics, oils, pastels, photography and, since 1991, digital art in Photoshop.
Hardy began his career in the design office of Cadbury's, where he created packaging and advertising art for the company's confectionery. He is most famously known however for his space art and was the illustrator for books by Sir Patrick Moore.
This particular print titled 'Stellar Radiance', although not the first planet of a solar system painted by Hardy, became his most popular. It was voted No. 6 in the Fine Art Trades Guild's 'Top Ten Prints' – the first and only space art print ever to appear on this list.
