Frank Guille was foremost a furniture designer and later teacher and Head of Furniture Design at the RCA London. Born in 1927, he was taught by Robin Day, John Cole, Gordon Russell, and Danish designer Kaare Klint, who are all considered to be amongst the most important modern furniture designers.
Guille’s furniture designs were led by his belief in functionality, utility and simplicity. His elegant furniture was visually simple and refined taking commissions from the likes of Heals and Kandya Ltd.
A staple of many homes back in the Mid 20th Century, Formica topped tables were practical and stylish. They came in many shapes, sizes, patterns and colours, instantly transforming any dull kitchen/dining room.
This absolute stunner was designed by Guille and manufactured for Kandya in the 1950s and is seemingly quite rare nowadays. The pastel blue Formica paired with the beautiful beech cross frame legs really make this table stand out. If you're a fan of Mid Century aesthetics this is the table for you!
The table came to us looking extremely sad and tired, but after a complete sand and oil, we hope you agree he's looking absolutely beautiful once more. That being said this is still a vintage item and does still show signs of its previous life, including some marks to both the wood and some surface marks, chips and scratching to the Formica top as photographed.
When fully erect the table measures approximately 135cm long, 67.5cm wide and 71cm tall, with an under table height of 64cm. When both leafs are dropped the table measures approximately 71cm long, 67.5cm wide.
