Born in 1920, Audrey Harling was a Manchester based artist who used art as a form of therapy to help with her depression. She sold commercially and exhibited at The Stockport Art Gallery. Her work, often portraiture, featured bright layered colour in an expressionist style.
This particular piece, a male portrait, is very typical of her style and is a great example of her beautiful work. Featuring her signature bright colours and lovely free, unrestrained detailing.
In general good condition, with wear commensurate with age including some old foxing marks and minor marks to the paintwork here and there. We have had new wooden frames custom made by a local joiner and cabinet maker, an exact copy of a broken original one of the other paintings had.
