Once used in Tullie Museum and Art Gallery which was opened by the Carlisle Corporation in 1893. This lovely glazed display cabinet, circa early 20th century, would have proudly stored some of the museum's vast and varied collections.
The cabinet comprises of six glazed doors on both sides, meaning whatever you display can be viewed from all the way around. Each of the six doors open down and we suspect that the cabinet once sat on a tall stand. It also looks like there may have been some shelves added at some point as there are some holes to the interior where these may have been fixed.
A fantastic and unique storage / display solution for any home or business. Not only aesthetically pleasing but practical too, sure to help keep any items safe and secure.
The cabinet came to us with the interior badly painted with black paint. This has now been stripped sanded and refinished making it look beautiful once more. We've also had all the six locks restored and two new keys cut. The locks are a little fiddly and stiff, but hopefully after some use this will ease. In general good condition with the usual surface wear, scratching and markings to the wood as to be expected from an item of this age and nature.
Measures approximately 76cm tall, 244cm long and 28cm wide. Internally the cabinet measures approximately 71cm tall, 238cm long and 19cm wide.
