These striking swivel arm chairs were originally used in the Council Chamber of Carlisle's Civic Centre. Despite being praised in various brutalist architecture publications, the eye catching octagonal building in which they once resided in was sadly demolished in 2022.
Thankfully though we were able to salvage some of the chairs, preserving some of our city's mid 20th century history.
With original upholstery that is in general good condition with some small areas of wear commensurate with age and use, including scuffs, small tears and marks as photographed. Please note the chairs do require being fixed to the floor in order for them to be stable to sit on. They cannot be sat on without being fixed to the floor. The chrome cover plates also feature some light wear, including marks, scratching and some small dints here and there, but after a good polish have shined up well.
We have unfortunately been unable to identify a brand or designer, however we did find them photographed in a 1964 House and Garden book titled, The Modern Interior.
The chairs are primarily black but do have hints of charcoal grey here and there. Each chair measures approximately 64cm wide, 57cm deep and 81cm tall with a seat height of 44cm.
PLEASE NOTE. The photographs taken show images of the wear and sections from multiple chairs, and are each sold separately, however all are in a very similar condition. So the chair you receive may feature different wear and tear from what is photographed.
