We can never resist an original vintage abstract painting. Something about the colours and textures always seem to draw us in.
Painted by recently deceased artist Jim Ridout, we predict these small abstract paintings were potentially experimental practice pieces that eventually would have formed larger works. Purchased from a recent estate sale, selling much of his work and materials.
Born in 1946, Jim Ridout studied at Oxford and Camberwell School of Art with particular interest in painting and print-making. While living in Yokohama, Japan, Ridout studied brush drawing and wood-block printing, and exhibited Japanese landscapes.
Later in life Jim Ridout lived in the Lake District, Cumbria and spent much of his time outdoors, painting his striking watercolour landscapes under dawn or sunset skies, or in moonlight, that have become very collectable after his recent passing.
As these works are unsigned, we're unsure as to which way around they were intended to be displayed, so this really is open to personal interpretation.
In good condition, measuring approximately 40cm wide, 40cm tall and 1.5cm deep.
