This lovely simple coffee table with magazine rack is very typical of its era in design and sure to look just as beautiful in the home today as when it was first purchased.
Originally part of a nest of tables this is the only piece that now remains, however it's arguably the most useful part.
Along with G Plan, McIntosh were one of the main makers of British contemporary dining and bedroom furniture in the 1960s and 70s, producing fine examples of furniture using traditional techniques that employed highly skilled cabinet makers.
By the early 1960s, McIntosh began to move away from producing more traditional style dining and bedroom furniture and headed towards making mid-century style furniture mirroring the Danish Modern style. This move was lead by McIntosh design director Tom Robertson and Val Rossi, who propelled the company into a period of prosperity. It was around this time that McIntosh stopped making bedroom furniture and focused its production on its more popular dining room tables, chairs and sideboards.
The top has been fully stripped, sanded and re-finished making it look beautiful once more. That being said there are still some light marks that are simply commensurate with age. The fabric sling that holds magazines or books is also a little stained, but nothing that detracts from its overall look.
Measures approximately 50cm wide, 50cm deep and 45cm tall.
