This beautiful wooden table lamp base from SS Canberra is the perfect addition to any home.
SS Canberra was an ocean liner, which later operated on cruises, in the P&O fleet from 1961 to 1997. She was built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland and named on 17 March 1958, after the federal capital of Australia, Canberra. She was launched on 16 March 1960, sponsored by Dame Pattie Menzies, wife of the then Prime Minister of Australia, Robert Menzies. She entered service in May 1961, and made her maiden voyage starting in June. In the 1982 Falklands War she served as a troopship.
The sculptural aesthetic and enamelled badge makes this piece brim with personality and charm. A great piece of British marine history.
In general good condition with light wear, and marks commensurate with age, the base has been re-oiled, conditioning and cleaning the wood, making it look its best once more. We've also had the lamp rewired with cream 3 core nylon flex (approximately 202cm) along with a 3 pin UK plug and brass bayonet lamp holder (B22).
Please note, this listing is for the base only, if you'd like more information about the shade in the photograph please get in touch.
Measures approximately 20cm tall, 26cm tall to the top of the lamp holder and 12.5cm in diameter.
