Jens Quistgaard is considered one of Denmark's leading designers. Quistgaard's well designed well executed products typify the Danish Modern style and reflect his interest in traditional well crafted items.
Just 8 years after its production over 26.5 thousand of these Congo ice buckets had been sold and 23 art museums and galleries around the world added one to their permanent collection. The sales could have been much higher had Dansk been able to mass produce them, however each one was constructed by hand, something Quistgaard was passionate about. Each one comprises of 48 pieces of solid Siamese teak, hand dowelled and hand glued.
This bucket is the smaller of the two that were available and due to the stamp on the bottom along with the orange plastic bin inside, after some online research, can be dated to mid way through production in the 1960s.
In lovely condition with very light wear commensurate with age and use. We acquired this from a local house call and was bought new in the 1960s.
Measures approximately 39.5cm tall and 19cm in diameter.
