Single Black Robin Day for Hille / Loft Ltd Polo Stacking Chair.

Robin Day is arguably one of Britain’s most celebrated and most recognisable Mid Century designers.

Few chairs have achieved such a universal familiarity as Day’s Polyprop, a stackable chair featured in countless village halls, hospitals and schools to name but a few. Day’s ambition with the Polyprop was to make good design available to the mass market in the form of affordable and reliable furniture.

The Polo chair as for sale here was an evolution of the Polyprop and was first manufactured in 1972 by S.Hille & Co. a London based company that Day collaborated with for over 20 years as a consultant designer.

Robin Day designed the Polo chair as the world’s first indoor / outdoor chair and saw it as the most fun piece in his collection of designs. The low flexible back offers incredible support for long periods of use, a design aspect that Day himself described as a “virtual upholstery feel”.

Loft Furniture, a UK Leeds based business, purchased the original tooling used to produce the Robin Day Polo chair back in 2001, since then they have exclusively manufactured the Polo range, introducing new colours that seamlessly complement the original range. So although not vintage this chair is exclusively produced by Loft, the only company to now produce the chairs.

Although new stock this particular chair is classed as a factory second and does come with some very minor blemishes, marks and some light surface scratching.

Each chair measures approximately 69cm tall, 53cm wide and 50cm deep with a 45cm seat height.
