Frank Guille was foremost a furniture designer and later teacher and Head of Furniture Design at the RCA London. Born in 1927, he was taught by Robin Day, John Cole, Gordon Russell, and Danish designer Kaare Klint, who are all considered to be amongst the most important modern furniture designers.
Guille’s furniture designs were led by his belief in functionality, utility and simplicity. His elegant furniture was visually simple and refined taking commissions from the likes of Heals and Kandya Ltd.
The Trimma range for Kandya was designed in the Mid 1950s as a modular storage system for domestic use. The range was focussed towards offering a flexible, modern solution for the changing contemporary kitchens. Floor standing and wall-mounting units could be selected in a range of combinations, with doors, drawers and glazed units.
With inspiration taken from the ‘Frankfurt Kitchen’ of 1927 by Grete Schutte-Lihotzky, the Guille design was space-efficient and expertly planned. The composition of drawers and doors and the use of coloured panels were carefully considered and introduced a new level of modernity to domestic interiors.
This absolutely beautiful unit is sure to be the focal point of any kitchen or room it's placed. With various cupboards and drawers in wood and powder coating along with a formica top, it's got ample storage space for a whole manner of items.
All the external natural wood has been stripped, sanded and refinished balancing up the colour and ridding it of some bad stains. That being said there are still some areas of wear commensurate with age and use. There are various chips, marks and discolouring to the white painted sections and some chipping and marks to the powder coated doors, along with a small crack to the top right of the glass all as photographed. However, none of this detracts from the overall look of the piece.
Measures approximately 104.5cm wide, 53.5cm deep, and 89.5cm tall to the worktop and 92cm tall to the top of the formica back plate.
